There are many different things that can be done in the classroom using the text, Invitation Slip-Up.  Please read below to see if there is anything that is of interest to you and your classroom.

Reading

  1. Read the story and then complete a story map
  2. Think along while reading this story- Have students make predictions, inferences, ask questions, and make comparisons.
  3. Have students make text to self connections while reading the story.
  4. Identify the problem and solution.
  5. Use this text to model how to use quotation marks while writing a creative story.
  6. Students can create the invitation that they think Sally gave Oliver.
  7. This could be used to explain what it means to "Jump to Conclusions"
  8. Students could identify character traits of Oliver and explain how his feeling changed throughout the text.
  9. Students could identify the static vs. the dynamic characters in the text

Writing

  1. Use this text to model how to use quotation marks while writing a creative story.
  2. Students can create the invitation that they think Sally gave Oliver.
